WASHINGTON, D.C. SELECTED AS OFFICIAL SITE OF THE ETHIOPIAN/AFRICAN 2000 MILLENNIUM CELEBRATION

AddisZemen, LLC has selected Washington, DC as the site for the ETHIOPIAN/AFRICAN 2000 MILLENNIUM CELEBRATION, an historic affair which quite literally, can only occur “once in a thousand years”! Ethiopia measures the passage of time using a combination of the ancient Egyptian and Julian calendars and according to that system, the Ethiopian ‘millennium’ will commence this year on September 12, 2007. For those nations using the Gregorian calendar, mostly nations of the West, the millennium commenced on the 1st of January, 2000. This wonderful celebration of Ethiopian and African culture and history falls on September 11th, the Ethiopian New Year’s Eve. Ironically, this is also the anniversary of the greatest terror attack on America in its history.

“We see some important, reverse symbolism and an opportunity for global healing in this,” said Anteneh Demelash, spokesperson for AddisZemen, LLC. “September 11th has the sad, sad distinction of being a profoundly tragic day for America- as well as for those many nations who count themselves friends of America. But we’re going to use this day as a lens to focus on and promote the living spirit of positive transformation in humanity, with the goal being to create a thousand years of peace and social evolution, starting with Africa and the Middle East.”
The ETHIOPIAN/AFRICAN 2000 MILLENNIUM CELEBRATION will be presented by the Ethiopian/African 2000 Millennium Group, on the Constitution Avenue side of the Washington Monument grounds, adjacent to the site where the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of African American History will be built. This day-long event, scheduled from 5:00 pm to midnight, will feature music, a satellite feed joining Washington, DC to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Abidjan, Senegal; celebrity appearances, vendors from Africa and the African Diaspora, wonderful cuisines and cultural expressions from all over Africa and the Diaspora and a fireworks display. AddisZemen, LLC is the principal sponsor of this ”once-in-a-thousand-years” celebration of the human spirit.
